COACHING COURSE – 30 JULY – 3 AUGUST 2007, Bristol University

This year there will again be a coach education course run by Bristol University. The venue for the course will be Cotham School sports hall, Cotham Lawn Road, Bristol, BS6 6DT. Dates will be Monday 30th July to Friday 3rd August. Coach Educator will be Neil Brown (assisted by Peter Wright for 2 days).  The course is intended for competent fencers who are interested in starting or furthering their coaching career.  For technical details, Neil can be contacted on 01823 279861 or at neil@fencingcoach.net.  This is a full time course from Monday to Friday 10.00am to 4.00pm and there will be preparatory work to do before and during the course.

The aim of the course will be to qualify fencers for the BAF Level 1 (formerly the initial award) but will also cover the syllabus for Level 1 and Level 2 of the latest British Fencing system. The minimum age to obtain a coaching qualification is 16 but coaches under 18 have to work under direct supervision of an adult coach whatever grade of qualification they obtain. The assessment of the trainee coaches will be during the course.

Cost of the course will be £185. This will include all coaching fees & materials & assessment expenses. Any coaching manuals and books are extras.  Places will be strictly limited to allow proper coach/pupil ratios for this very technical training.  If you would like a place on this course, please send the full balance as soon as possible payable to “University of Bristol”, or you may forfeit your place.  Early booking is advised!  This is an excellent earning qualification for students.

Full details, programmes and pre-course work will be sent out nearer the time.

For those living outside the Bristol area there are many hotels, Youth Hostels and guest houses in the city.
